WSC OFFICER ELECTED AS LIBERATION'S CENTRAL COMMITTEE MEMBER

LONDON (October 16, 2008), WSC delegates attended the 54th Annual General Meeting of Liberation, an anti-imperialist organization promoting colonial freedom, on October 4th, 2008 in London.
The new Central Committee for Liberation was elected during this meeting. Liberation elected WSC Chair Dr. Haleem Bhatti as a member of the Central Committee. Honorable Jeremy Corbyn, a member of British Parliament and Ms. Maggie Bowden were elected as Chairman and Secretary General of Liberation.
WSC and Liberation jointly raise awareness about the plight of Sindhis and other oppressed nations in various international forums. This was the ninth consecutive year that a WSC representative is elected by the general body for central leadership of Liberation.
WSC and Liberation delegates proposed a resolution regarding ongoing human rights abuses in Pakistan. The resolution demands that all the anti-Sindhi actions undertaken particularly during the Musharaf-MQM rule be cancelled and Sindhi people's rights to their resources be restored. The resolution also demands the release of all political activists, a majority of which are Sindhis and Balochs. The congregation also demanded that immediate action be taken by the current political government for the social, cultural and economic uplift of Sindhi people.
The resolution was unanimously adopted by the AGM. In their speeches Mr. Jeremy Corbyn, Chairman of Liberation and John McDonnell, M British Parliament expressed their concern for the demands of Sindhi people and promised their support to the cause. Liberation leadership promised to raise the issues at appropriate venues and with relevant authorities.
"Our collaboration with Liberation provides WSC with the opportunity to work with British human rights activists on an issue of mutual concern," said Dr. Haleem Bhatti, the chairman of the WSC.
Other WSC delegates attending the AGM were Mr Sultan Mahar, Mr. Sanjay Ahuja and Ms. Magda Mahar.
